The Wellesley High School cheerleading squad is doing big things to start off the winter season. Head coach Odessa Sanchez was kind of to pass along this recap of the teams latest competition plus where you may be able to watch the team in action this winter.
Members from the Wellesley Cheer Squad participated in a Student Body Hello Cheer & Dance Competition last night at Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. This was our second time entering as an extension to our Fall season, and an opportunity to collaborate with Schools from surrounding areas ( some of the communities our Metco Cheerleaders live in.) It is a great crossover experience for both Wellesley and Boston high school student bodies. Last year we came in 2nd in the Cheer category, and this year we are proud to take home the 1st place trophy for Dance Championship. The competition was held December 9th at Reggie Lewis Center. Seven schools participated and Wellesley Varsity Cheer sold 100 tickets to our fan base in Wellesley and in Boston. Many families and a few Wellesley Varsity football and Basketball players came to cheer us on! Because our Fall season is officially over, only ten of our 18 member squad was available to compete last night. I want to recognize those hard working cheer athletes because their resilience and passion are the reason for this win. Lead by team captains, Shyann Chalmus, Skye Sanchez, and Matayah Roderick, the competition squad consisted of these additional Cheerleaders; Petrina Ssempala, Rhianna Murray, Samone Lumley, Kaidyn Hart, Naimar Nunez, Karina Gomes, and James Ostler. Co -coached by Wellesley High alumni Jayla Glover, we are very excited to share this trophy with our Wellesley High Athletic Community! We may need a larger trophy case!
