On this cool, raw, and damp Friday morning with believe it or not, snow in the forecast I can’t think of a better time for another edition of Raider Friday Trivia. Today’s question is… what school year did John Brown become athletic director at Wellesley High School? Answer tomorrow!

Track And Field Previews

On this second to last day of our spring sports previews we take a look at the boys and girls track and field teams who are both coming off of outstanding seasons in 2016 and looking for more of the same this season. The girls had a banner worthy year as they finished 5-0 in the regular season and then went on to capture the D2 state championship! Look for the girls to be at the top of the Bay State once again and compete for yet another state title. The boys meanwhile finished their regular season 4-1 and placed 5th at the D2 state meet. This season look for the boys to also be top dogs once again in the Bay State and compete for a potential state title as well! Tomorrow will be our final spring sports preview as we take a look at both boys volleyball and girls golf!

Tennis Previews

On this hump day edition of our week long spring sports preview we take a look at the boys and girls tennis teams who both enjoyed tremendous success in 2016 and will be looking to do much of the same this season. The boys finished off their 2016 campaign with a 17-4 overall record, falling in the D1 South semifinals against Barnstable. Look for the boys to once again continue their run as a perennial power in both the Bay State Conference and D1 South and compete for not only another league title, but a sectional and state title as well. The girls meanwhile enjoyed a perfect 2016 season, finishing 24-0 overall and winning the D1 State Title. The team will have high expectations as always and a tremendous target o their backs this season, but given recent history the girls will certainly be in the running to defend both their league and state titles. Tomorrow we will take a look at both track and field teams, so be on the lookout!

Lacrosse Previews

On day 2 of our spring sports previews we take a look at both boys and girls lacrosse who are both coming off of tournament appearances in 2016. The boys finished up 2016 with a 9-10 overall record, falling to Xaverian in the first round for the second year in a row. The boys are always a contender in D1 South and the Bay State Conference and look for it to be no different this year as they’ll vie for another tournament berth, something they have achieved in all 10 seasons under head coach Rocky Batty. The girls team enjoyed a tremendously successful 2016 campaign finishing 15-5 overall and advancing all the way to the D1 South semifinals before falling to Westwood. Much like their male counterparts the girls are perennially at the top of both D1 South and the Herget Division and look for that to be the same this year, although the girls will face a challenging regular season schedule including a date with Westwood. Stay tuned tomorrow as we will preview both tennis teams!

Baseball and Softball Previews

On day one of our spring sports previews we take a look at the baseball and softball teams who both have high aspirations entering the 2017 campaign. The baseball team is coming off of another tournament berth in 2016, in which they finished with an overall record of 10-11, but with a solid core returning this year’s team looks primed to make another run at both a tournament appearance and a Bay State Herget title. The softball team meanwhile is looking for their first tournament appearance since 2009 after finishing 7-13 a year ago. However the team did end the season with some positive momentum after a big double header victory on senior day against Medway. With a solid core returning as well, the Raiders will certainly be in contention for that elusive tournament berth as well as a conference title. Keep a look out tomorrow as we will preview both lacrosse teams!

Monday Poll

It’s the final Monday of March and thus time for another installment of Monday Poll. Last week’s poll asked what team would have the best season record wise this spring, and out of the 8 votes cast, boys lacrosse took home the top spot with 4 votes. This week’s poll question is… which field facility do you prefer watching SPRING sports? Sprague Fields or the High School Fields. Get those votes in!

Spring Team Previews

Now that we’ve unveiled the schedules for the spring sports teams, it’s time to preview each of the spring sports teams as they begin their second week of the 2017 spring season. Starting tomorrow I will be rolling out previews for each of the spring sports teams, beginning with baseball and softball, so keep an eye out!
