Raider Friday Trivia Answer and Wellesley South Recognized

So yesterday I posed the question what division did both Wellesley based colleges (Wellesley and Babson) play in? The answer is… Division 3 with both schools actually competing in the same conference (NEWMAC)! Again there was no prize this week but thank you to all of you who played along at home! In other news the tale of Wellesley South’s run this summer to the Williamsport regional tournament added one last chapter this week as Unpage Publications ranked them 42nd in their annual top 50 Williamsport US teams from this past summer! Congratulations again to the players and coaches on quite the memorable run!

Football Preview

In our last installment of fall sport previews we take a look at the Raider football team who has been on the practice field for a week now getting ready for the new campaign. The team is coming off of a very exciting, successful 2015 finishing 6-5 and earning a playoff berth before losing in the quarterfinals to Braintree. The team will have some big shoes to fill including the loss of 2 year starting quarterback Jake Mohan as they make the jump this year from division 2 to divison 1a, but with Jesse Davis back at the helm for his 5th season as head coach you can bet the Raiders will battle all season long, as they look to make a second straight playoff berth!

Raider Friday Trivia

It’s the last Friday in August, which means almost time to go back to school and also time for another edition of Raider Friday Trivia! Unfortunately no prize today, but still get those answers in. Today’s question is…what division of NCAA competition are both Wellesley colleges (Babson and Wellesley) members of? Answer tomorrow.

Boys Golf and Girls Swimming Previews

On this second to last day of our fall sports previews it’s time to take a look at both the Boys Golf and Girls Swim team as they open up practices for the 2016 campaign. Both teams had winning records last season and finished strongly in various sectional matches. The girls swim team is coming off an impressive 8-2-1 mark which ended with a 5th place finish at the sectional meet. Despite losing some key swimmers to graduation the girls are always in contention for conference, sectional, and state titles and will look to be so again in this new year.

Meanwhile Boys Golf also finished off last fall with a winning record going 8-7. The boys then went on to compete in the sectional match. The team returns some key parts from a year ago and will look to perform to an even higher level in 2016!

Field Hockey and Girls Volleyball Previews

Happy hump day everyone, as we continue our week of fall sports previews here on Wellesley Sports Blitz! Today we take a look at both the Field Hockey and Girls Volleyball teams who both saw postseason action in 2015. Field hockey continued their success with a 12-3-5 record overall and a first round tournament win before the team’s run came to an end in the D1 South Quarterfinals vs. Mansfield. Look for the Raiders to vie once again for a tournament berth in 2016 and also compete for a Herget title.

Meanwhile the Girls Volleyball team enjoyed tremendous success last fall with an 18-3 record. The girls made it all the way to the D1 Central/West finals before losing to Concord Carlisle. Look for the team’s success to continue in 2016 as they eye another conference title and long postseason run!

Cross Country Preview

For day 2 of our fall sports preview, we take a look at both the girls and boys cross country teams, who after enjoying success in the 2015 campaign are looking for big things in 2016. The boys enjoyed a perfect 11-0 record a year ago and won the Eastern Divisional championship. Despite some key losses to graduation the boys look primed to once again make a run at a Herget and divisional title. Meanwhile on the girls side, the girls also finished with a winning record last year going 7-4 and taking 5th at the Eastern Divisional meet. Like their male counterparts the girls are always in the running for a conference and divisional title, and will look for more of the same in 2016.
