As we enter the last day of June, with temperatures expected to be in the 90’s, there is some red hot Lou Tompkins action on tap today as both teams ( B and C) are in action as B looks to get back to 500 while C looks for their first win of the season. First it’s time to answer yesterday’s trivia question. The team that Wellesley South beat to win the towns last sectional title in 2016 was… Medford Blue by an 8-4 final. That was of course on the way to a state championship for South. Now onto the schedule!
Lou Tompkins C @ Lincoln-Sudbury (Feeley) 10 am
Lou Tompkins B @ Stoneham (Stoneham HS) 5 pm
As we close out the spring season reviews today, we’ve saved the one of the best for last as we take a look back at the boys and girls track teams, who both continued a string of success in 2018. The boys team finished their regular season 4-1 before finishing 13th at the East sectional meet, and 35th at the all-state meet. The boys have been perennial contenders now for years and I don’t expect that to change as they enter the 2019 season.
The girls had an amazing 2018 season that was certainly banner worthy. After finishing 5-0 in regular season competition, the girls finished 4th at a very close sectional meet, and then went on to capture the title at the all-state meet! With a core of young talent dominating the field we can definitely expect the girls to be back and better than ever as they look to defend their title come next spring!
It’s the last Friday of June, and summer weather is in full effect here. It’s also a great time for the last June edition of Raider Friday Trivia. Today’s question is…who did Wellesley South beat to win the town’s last Williamsport sectional title back in 2016? Answer tomorrow!
As we enter the last Friday in June, there is certainly a lot of little league action to be had with 3 games on the docket on this Friday evening. Who’s taking the field, lets find out!
U9 American vs. Parkway (Ouellet) 6 pm
U9 National @ Milton American White (Andrews) 6 pm
U10 National @ Milton National (Donovan) 6 pm
It’s the second to last day of our spring sports season reviews as today we take a look back at both the girls golf and boys volleyball teams. It was another tremendous season for girls golf, who was coming off of a south sectional title in 2017. The girls finished this season at 12-2 overall and then went on to finish second at the sectional match, and third at the all state match. This team has certainly shown its prowess the past few seasons and I would expect nothing less come 2019.
The boys volleyball team unfortunately saw its streak of tournament appearances come to an end this season as the boys struggled to a 3-17 overall record. That being said the heart and determination of this team was evident match in and match out, and should be cause for great optimism heading into 2019. Tomorrow we will wrap up the week of reviews with boys and girls track!
The weather is supposed to be a bit iffy today/tonight so it remains to be seen whether or not these games get in. That being said here is today’s little league schedule as it stands right now!

As we continue through this week of spring sports reviews we take a look today at the tennis teams, who both continued their recent successes in 2018. The boys tennis team fresh off a south sectional title in 2017, finished off their 2018 with a 13-7 record. The team then upset Sharon in the first round of the D1 South tournament before falling in a tough one against Newton North in the quarterfinals. There is no reason to doubt however that the boys will once again be a team to watch out for in 2019 as they look to make another run in D1.
The girls team enjoyed yet another successful season, as they finished with a 15-3 overall record. The girls then defeated Brockton, Weymouth, and Newton North in the D1 South bracket to earn yet another berth in a south final, where unfortunately they saw their run come to an end against Brookline. Like with their male counterparts look for the girls to right at the top of the league, sectional, and state come 2019, as they’ll be strong contenders for their 2nd state title in 4 years. Stay tuned tomorrow as we’ll take a look at girls golf and boys volleyball!
