So I have a message for all you Raider fans out there, and it really was embodied last night at the night football game, and that is please, please, please donate to the Wellesley Field Fund. Hunnewell Field is in desperate need for an upgrade in terms of a turf field, better scoreboard, and permanent lights. I’ll give you examples from last night as to why the need for these items, first the scoreboard has been around since as long as I can remember and over the past few years has had a habit of malfunctioning including last night, causing the referees to have to keep time on the field for the second half, seriously folks we are one of the wealthiest towns in the state and to have a scoreboard malfunction like that is just plain embarrassing. In terms of the need for a turf field, we are one of only two towns in the Bay State Conference (Framingham) that still has a grass field, and the affects show like last night with players losing their footing easily especially after a rainy day. This issue not only needs to be rectified to keep up with other towns around us but also because of the safety risk that our current grass field could present. Lastly, the lights, every other team in our league has permanent lights at their field, and last night was a glaring example of why we need that as the stands were full to capacity and we just don’t get that for Saturday afternoon games. Friday night games also give the students something to go to that is fun and safe and if we had permanent lights the revenue increase in my opinion would be substantial. So please, please, please go to wellesleyfieldfund.com and donate because we need this as a town.
