Tonight despite some stormy weather turned out to be a great night for Wellesley Little League baseball as Wellesley South took to the field for the Section 3 championship game against Medford Blue in Melrose. A win and South would return to the state finals for the first time since the state title winning team of 2012. In front of a packed house South got off to a 5-1 lead thanks in large part to 2 homers by Jack Toomey. When Medford cut the lead down to 5-4 on a 3 run homer, Wellesley’s defense turned it up and held them scoreless for the rest of the night, while adding 3 runs in the top of the 6th for an 8-4 win and the section 3 title! South now moves on to the states which will be held in Westwood beginning Thursday night and concluding with potentially a state title game berth Sunday afternoon! For the complete schedule please check out the weekly schedule tomorrow and i’m hoping all Wellesley Little League fans will make the short trip to Westwood next week to cheer the boys onto victory!
