On the last day of games prior to both Christmas and Hanukkah the Raider boys basketball team traveled to Weston, both indoor track teams once again traveled into the Reggie Lewis Center to take on Walpole and boys swimming hosted Reading. It was an exciting night of hoops tonight at the Wellesley High gym as both the boys and girls basketball teams were in action in a home doubleheader against Walpole. A big honor was bestowed on Raider football senior Grant Chryssicas this weekend as he was named the Boston Globe’s Division 1A player of the year as part of their All Scholastic section. Chryssicas play at both running back and linebacker was a big part of the Raider’s 10-1 season this season including their 34-14 win over Needham on Thanksgiving. Here’s what the Globe had to say about Chryssicas.

“In a 10-1 season, the 6-foot-1-inch senior was a force. Named Bay State Herget MVP, Chryssicas had 98 tackles and 13 sacks from his outside linebacker position, adding 1,600 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on offense.”

Today was all about the ice as both boys and girls hockey took on Weymouth this evening, one looking for their second straight win to open the year, the other looking for their first win of the season and under a new coach. We’ll find out in a moment if both were successful but first here’s the answer to yesterdays Raider Friday Trivia question. The Raiders first regular season opponent in the new gym was… Longmeadow to open the 2012-13 season and the Raiders didn’t disappoint coming away with a thrilling 53-50 overtime victory over the Lancers.
