Raider Recap 12-10-16 (Plus Trivia Answer)

It is the first winter season installment of the Raider Recap and boy was it a fun first day of regular season games. Wrestling opened up with a quad match at Triton, while boys hockey traveled to Quincy, and girls hockey hosted Herget rival Milton. Before we get to the recap however, it is time for the answer to yesterday’s Raider Friday Trivia question where I asked what holiday tournament the boys and girls basketball teams participate in. The answer is… the Rockland Christmas Tournament which they will once again travel to later this month. Now onto the recap!

Wrestling Preview

On this final day of our winter sports previews, we take a look at one of the teams that will open their new season tomorrow, the wrestling team. The team is coming off a 2015-16 season that saw them go 1-9 overall but did also see Josh Cohen finish third in the all state match. With Cohen returning among others, the Raiders will look to go up, up, up this season as they look to put the rest of the Bay State Conference on notice.

Raider Friday Trivia

Tis the season… actually more like tis the time for another edition of Raider Friday Trivia. Today’s question is… what tournament do both the Raider Boys and Girls Basketball teams participate in during winter vacation? The answer will be posted tomorrow in the first winter edition of the Raider Recap!

Boys Swimming and Gymnastics Preview

On our second to last day of winter sports previews we take a look at the Boys Swim and Gymnastics teams who both are coming off Bay State Conference titles in 2015/16 and looking to continue that success into the new campaign. The swim team finished last year 12-1 overall, winning the Bay State regular season championship, and then finished second at the Conference Championships. The boys then went on to finish third in the sectionals meet, and then advanced to the all state meet where they took 9th place. The gymnastics team finished the season a perfect 9-0 winning yet another Bay State Conference title and then went on to finish 8th at the sectionals meet. The team will look for another banner worthy season this time around.

Indoor Track Preview

Happy hump day everyone, as today we continue our week long preview of the winter sports season by taking a look at both the boys and girls indoor track teams. Both teams are coming off successful 2015-16 seasons and are looking for bigger and better things in 2016-17. The boys finished last year 4-2 overall and then went to place 4th at the Bay State Conference championships. The girls finished their season 3-3, and went on then to win the Bay State Conference championship and are looking to repeat this season, while the boys will look to capture the title themselves as well.

Hockey Preview

On day 2 of our winter sports preview we look at the first teams to start their regular season this weekend, the boys and girls ice hockey teams, both of whom are coming off of tournament appearances in 2015-16. The boys had an up and down campaign finishing 9-9-3 overall and falling to eventual state champion Franklin in the first round of the D1 South tournament. The team returns a solid core and will be looking to once again compete for a Herget title and tournament berth this season. The girls on the other hand had another magical season last year finishing 18-3-2 overall, winning the Herget, and for the third year in a row advancing all the way to the state finals, where they unfortunately fell to Notre Dame Academy. The team begins a new chapter this season under new head coach PT Donato, who will look to guide the girls to another Herget title and potentially a 4th straight trip to TD Garden.
