Today we begin our previews for the 2016-17 winter season by taking a look at both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams. The girls are looking to capitalize on their success last season while the boys are looking to make the tournament after missing in 2015-16. The girls finished their campaign last year with a 20-3 overall record, winning the Bay State Herget crown and advancing all the way to the D1 South semifinals before falling to the always tough Braintree Wamps. The girls did lose some key seniors from that team, but do return the likes of Leo Sterling, and Dorian Cohen who will look to lead the team to another Herget title and deep tournament run. The boys meanwhile finished 7-13 missing the tournament as I said, however the team did end their season on a high note winning the Westwood tournament and giving themselves positive momentum heading into this new campaign.

It’s the first weekly schedule of the 2016-17 winter season as both hockey teams and wrestling open their seasons this coming Saturday. Now since that’s the only day of games this week, I’m just going to put Saturday’s action below rather than the full week. The full weekly schedules will commence starting next Sunday. Yesterday in the first December edition of Raider Friday Trivia I asked you when the last time the Raider Girls Basketball team lost a home tournament game. The answer is… 2015, as the Raiders fell to Brockton 49-42 in first round of the D1 South tournament.

It’s the first Friday of December, and the first Friday of the winter sports season. It’s also time for the first December edition of Raider Friday Trivia! Today’s question is… when was the last time a Raider Girls Basketball team lost a tournament game at HOME? The answer will be posted tomorrow!
