Wellesley-Needham Boys Hockey Recap (Fans Perspective)

This writeup of the Wellesley-Needham Boys hockey game this evening was sent to us by a reader and Raider fan, who wishes to remain anonymous. Here is their perspective on the thrilling 3-1 Wellesley win.

The barn was packed and the fans were rowdy at Babson Skating Center on the evening on Wednesday February 15th. It was the Seniors night at Babo as Wellesley High took on the bordering town and the rival, the Needham Rockets. Needham brought plenty of bodies to the game and Wellesley the same. The crowds were going wild and the parents and students packed the rink. As soon as the puck was dropped on the ice you could tell it would be a hell of a game. Robbie Johnson was on the call representing Wellesley Media Station, other towns were scouting the teams play and the rink was lit up. Needham scored a goal mid way through the first but although his mask covered his face, everyone could tell Freshman and starting goalie Drew Hubbard was determined not to let another puck slide by his crease. The buzzer buzzed and the first period was concluded. 1-0 Needham after one and Wellesley had ground to make up. The second period was full of great hits and great plays but the crowds were not heard to often because it was a scoreless period. The scoreless period did not coke from bad hockey being played but it was the outstanding play by both teams and great saves by both goalies that lead to a second period being scoreless. The fans waited patiently for the ice to be re surfaced and the teams to warm up. The first loud noise was made late in the 3rd period due to first year Wellesley student and Junior Liam Morgan scoring a goal to tie it up. 1-1 and tie and both ends crowds were ready to get loud once another goal was scored. Luckily for the Wellesley fans that opportunity was presented when Senior Captain Zach Doughty lit up the rink by scoring an outstanding goal. Just the kind of goal that you want to see a senior hit during his last game against Needham as a student athlete at the High School. Although there was a minuet and half left there was little doubt that Needham had a chance of scoring on the Wellesley side of things. Fans yelled “Warm up the busses” and sang the Rockets off the ice. But before the Rockets could exit the ice another goal was made by Senior Captain Nathan Brown. A cherry on the top to a great night at Babson Skating Center. As the people poured out of the rink people left with one question on there mind “I wonder if the Needham kid who threw the chicken on the ice during the 1st period is regretful of his actions”.
