It may be snowing out and cold, but on the bright side it is Friday, and thus time for another edition of Raider Friday Trivia. Unfortunately there is no prize this week but still feel free to get your answers in! Today’s question is… last night was the first time since 2008 that a Wellesley boys hockey team had played in a sectional semifinal, who was their opponent in that last appearance? Answer tomorrow!
Month: March 2017
Raider Recap 3-9-17
Another night another sectional semifinal, as following girls basketball’s loss Tuesday, boys hockey was left as the last chance to keep the winter season alive. To do so the boys would have to get through Braintree who defeated the Raiders 4-1 earlier in the season. Could the team avenge that loss and earn a spot in the sectional final, let’s find out!
Result for 3-9-17
Boys Hockey: Braintree 1 Wellesley 0 D1 South Semifinals
Boys finish season 15-6-1. Congratulations on an outstanding season, and best of luck to the seniors going forward!
Winter Sports Wrap up/Spring Sports Preview
With just one team remaining (boys hockey) from the winter sports season, it’s time to look towards the end of this season and the beginning of the spring sports season. Next week I will begin rolling out the winter sports wrap-ups for each winter sports team, and then the week after that will begin our spring sports coverage with schedules and previews for all Raider spring sports teams!
Raider Recap 3-7-17
For the second year in a row the Wellesley High girls basketball team played in the D1 South semifinals this evening at Massasoit Community College in Brockton. The Raiders were looking for their first trip to a sectional final since 2008, the first and only time they won a state championship. Standing in their way were the top seeded Mansfield Hornets. Could the girls use that grit and determination they’ve shown all season long to pull off the upset, let’s find out!
Result for 3-7-17
Girls Basketball: Mansfield 40 Wellesley 32 D1 South Semifinals
Girls finish the season 18-4. Congratulations on another amazing run and best of luck to the seniors on their future endeavors!
Monday Poll
It’s the first Monday of March and thus another great time for Monday Poll. Last week’s poll generated 8 votes, and out of those 8 half of you chose other spring sports that you prefer to watch. This week’s poll takes a bit more professional sports tone as this week I want to know which Boston area pro team do you like best, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, Patriots? Submit your answers now!
Schedule For Week Of 3-6
As we enter the second week of tournament play across the state, 2 Raider teams remain (Boys Hockey, Girls Basketball) as both are looking to continue their runs towards a sectional title and beyond. Now with only 2 teams being in action I am just posting the dates with games for this schedule, but will update depending on the results.
Tuesday 3-7
Girls Basketball vs. Mansfield (Massasoit CC) 7:30 pm
Thursday 3-8
Boys Hockey vs. Braintree (Gallo) 7:30 pm
Raider Recap 3-5-17
It might’ve been freezing outside but it was red hot inside Canton Ice House tonight as both boys and girls hockey looked to keep their seasons alive, in the D1 South Quarterfinals and D2 First Round respectively. For both teams it was personal as the boys were battling their neighboring rivals Natick, while the girls were facing off against Westwood a team who has ended the Raiders season 2 out of the last 5 years. Could both teams take that next step towards the Garden, let’s find out!
Results for 3-5-17
Girls Hockey: Westwood 2 Wellesley 1 D2 First Round
Girls finish season 14-5-3. Congratulations on a great run and best of luck to the seniors going forward!
Boys Hockey: Wellesley 5 Natick 1 D1 South Quarterfinals
Team will face Braintree in D1 South Semifinals
Raider Friday Trivia Answer
So with their being no tournament action tonight no recap so to speak but there was a Raider Friday Trivia yesterday and it’s time to reveal the answer. The answer is… St James Church which was torn down to make way for (again hopefully) a multi-purpose recreational facility including a hockey rink! Congratulations to Dale Crowe who is the winner of this week’s gift card!
Raider Friday Trivia (With Prize)
The weather outside may be chilly, but the time is just right for another red hot edition of Raider Friday Trivia on this first Friday of March! Today’s prize is the final Dunkin Donuts gift card in my possession (for the time being at least) so get those answers in! The question is… what facility used to sit on the land, that will now be used (hopefully) for a new ice hockey and recreation complex in town in the coming years? Answer tomorrow!
Raider Recap 3-2-17
Another night another home tournament game, as tonight it was girls basketball’s turn in the spotlight as they opened tournament play with a D1 South Quarterfinal against Marshfield. With both teams allowing less than 40 points per game this season, this one figured to be a defensive slugfest. Could the Raiders come out on top, let’s find out!
Result for 3-2-17
Girls Basketball: Wellesley 45 Marshfield 32 D1 South Quarterfinals
Team advances to play Mansfield in D1 South Semifinals!
