Girls hockey looked for a big late season win vs. Needham, girls basketball opened up the Westwood tournament against King Philip, and boys swimming headed into BU for the D1 state meet. Rugby Comes To Town

A new youth rugby program is coming to the area and is looking for Wellesley kids who are interested in learning about the sport of rugby. Centaurs Youth Rugby sent over the following press release about their programRugby flyer.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEBRUARY 15, 2019

For the first time a Youth Rugby Program is being offered in the area. Centaurs Youth Rugby is a Non-Contact Flag sport for boys and girls ages 5 to 12/grades K to 6. Its first spring season is starting April 1, 2019. The program is flexible offering 2 afternoon sessions per week, with matches on alternative weekends. The program is a youth recreation and development program and is open to children in all towns.

Our program is located at the UMASS Mount Ida Campus in Newton, just a few minutes from Route 9 and from the I-95 Kendrick Street exit. We are within 20 minutes for residents from Weston, Waltham, Wellesley, Needham, Newton, West Roxbury, Dedham, Waltham and Brookline. Centaurs Rugby Boston joins the league of youth clubs operating in Massachusetts under the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization and Rugby USA infrastructure.

Rugby is an all-inclusive sport played around the world and rapidly growing in popularity in the USA. Rookie rugby is a fast-moving safe non-contact game that involves all kids in catching, passing and running, having fun and building friendships. The Centaurs program will develop your child’s fitness, mobility, motor skills, developing in children self-confidence, leadership, decision making, respect for others, working as a team, commitment, overcoming fears and taking on challenges with the correct attitude, being great sportsmen and women. It’s not all about winning the Match, it is about nurturing a child for life, that is the win.
