Boys Swimming and Gymnastics Reviews

It’s the second to last day of our winter sports reviews as we take a look back at boys swimming and gymnastics. Boys Swimming finished up the regular season 5-5 and then finished 9th at sectionals and 17th at states. Like all other Raider winter teams this team is always very competitive and I expect nothing less come next year.

Gymnastics finished their regular season 5-2 and then went on to compete at the Bay State Championships. I would expect the girls to continue that positive momentum into next year. Tomorrow we will wrap up the reviews with both nordic and alpine skiing and wrestling.

Track Schedule

As we continue our spring season schedule rollout today it is boys and girls track. Now since both teams have the same schedule I will be posting this as one combined schedule. All home meets will take place at Wellesley High and all meets start at 3:45 pm unless noted. Here’s a look at the schedule!

Indoor Track Season Reviews

Another day, another winter season review as today we take a look back at the boys and girls indoor track teams who both had banner worthy seasons in 2018/19. The boys finished 4-1 in the regular season, and then went on to finish 2nd at Bay State’s and at the All State Meet. The boys are always right up there and I expect things to be no different next season.

The girls had the perfect season finishing 5-0, and then winning the Bay State meet and the All State meet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the team have the exact same amount of success next season and run towards another banner. Tomorrow we will review boys swimming and gymnastics!

Lacrosse Schedules

On day 2 of the spring sports schedule unveil we take a look at the boys and girls lacrosse schedules. Both schedules only list league games at this point so expect there to be additions. Basketball Reviews

On day 2 of our winter sports season reviews we take a look back at both basketball teams. The boys earned a 14-4 regular season record and the 4th seed in D1 South. They defeated Durfee in the first round before falling to eventual sectional champ Newton North in the quarterfinals. After such a successful season look for the boys to reload next year and make another push towards a conference title.

The girls enjoyed yet another successful season finishing the regular season 16-3. The girls knocked off Walpole and Oliver Ames in the D1 South tournament before falling to eventual state champion Braintree in the semifinals. Despite some key graduation losses don’t expect that to slow down the girls next season as coach Glen Magpiong always has his teams reloaded and ready to compete for a title.

Tomorrow we will review both indoor track seasons!

Baseball And Softball Schedule

With the end of the winter season also comes the beginning of the spring sports season, and so today we begin the 2019 spring sport schedule rollout with baseball and softball. Couple of things about these schedules is that they do not yet include non-league games and also some early games may change depending on field conditions. Baseball will play all home games at Sprague again this year while softball will play once again at Lee. All games will start at 3:45 unless noted.

Hockey Reviews

Now that the winter season has officially ended it’s time to take a look back at the 2018-19 winter season with some season reviews. What better way to start than by taking a look back at both hockey programs. The girls finished the regular season 13-4-3 before defeating Canton, Norwell, Walpole and finally Notre Dame Academy in an overtime thriller to capture their second straight D2 state title. With only 5 graduating seniors look for the girls to be heavy favorites for a 3rd straight title come next season.

The boys team also earned a postseason trip in 2018-19 after finishing the regular season 11-7-2. After defeating Walpole in the first round of the D1 South bracket the boys fell to eventual state champion Duxbury in the quarterfinals. Much like their female counterparts the boys will have a strong core back next season and will look to once against battle for Bay State Conference and D1 supremacy.

Stay tuned tomorrow as we’ll review both basketball teams!

How Our Opponents Fared

Now that the winter sports tournament has come to an end I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how the teams who knocked off both basketball teams and boys hockey fared in the remainder of the tournament, as I think the results will intrigue you. Let’s take a look!

Boys Basketball:

Newton North defeated Brookline in D1 South Semifinals, defeated Mansfield in D1 South Finals, and then lost to Lynn English in D1 State Semifinals.

Girls Basketball:

Braintree defeated Needham in D1 South Finals, defeated Central Catholic in D1 State Semifinals, and then defeated Springfield Central in D1 State Finals.

Boys Hockey:

Duxbury defeated Barnstable in D1 South Semifinals, defeated Franklin in D1 South Finals, and defeated Winchester in D1 State Finals.
