Today we wrap up our spring sports reviews by taking a look at boys volleyball and girls golf. Boys volleyball unfortunately did not make it to postseason play in 2019 as they finished the regular season 5-11. Girls golf however had a perfect regular season finishing 16-0. The girls then went on to finish second at sectionals and fifth at states.

TGIF everyone, and what better time for another edition of Raider Friday Trivia. Today’s question is…How many athletic teams are there total between Babson and Wellesley College. Answer tomorrow!

On this second to last day of our spring season review, we take a look back at both track teams who certainly had banner worthy seasons in 2019. The boys finished their regular season 3-0-1 and went on to finish 6th at the Eastern Mass Meet and then finished 16th at the All State Meet. The girls meanwhile had pretty much the perfect season finishing 4-0 in the regular season, and then finishing 2nd at Eastern Mass and 1st at States.

On day 3 of our spring sports season reviews we take a look back at both tennis teams who had great runs this year on both the team and individual side. The boys finished their regular season 13-6 earning the 12 seed in D1 South. They then knocked off Sharon and Needham before falling to Brookline in South Semifinals. The boys did earn some hardware on the Individual side as Harry Collomb took home the State Singles title.

The girls finished their regular season a perfect 16-0 and earned the 2 seed in D1 South. The girls defeated Whitman-Hanson, Newton North, Hingham, and Sharon to capture the D1 South title. The girls then saw their perfect season come to an end against Acton-Boxborough in the State Semifinals. The girls also took home hardware on the Individual side as the doubles pair of Haley Genta and Maria Laso took home the State title!

On day 2 of our spring sports season reviews we take a look at both lacrosse teams who once again earned postseason berths in 2019. Boys lacrosse finished up the regular season 10-6 earning the 13 seed in the D1 South bracket. The boys then proceeded to upset Newton North in the first round before falling to BC High in the quarterfinals.

Girls lacrosse, coming off the 2018 state title finished their regular season 16-4 good for the 4 seed in D1 South. The girls defeated Pembroke and Old Rochester before seeing their title defense come to an end in the semifinals against top seeded Westwood.

Now that the spring season has officially concluded it’s time to take a look back at the season that was beginning with baseball and softball. Baseball finished the 2019 regular season 12-8 and after earning the 7 seed in the D1 South bracket defeated Hingham in the first round before their quest for a 3rd straight South finals appearance was ended by Durfee in the quarterfinals.

Softball meanwhile earned a second straight appearance in the postseason finishing the regular season 8-8 and earning the 22 seed in D1 South. Unfortunately their postseason run was short lived as they fell to Franklin in the preliminary round.

It was an important day for girls tennis as they looked to earn a berth in the state finals. Standing in their way  of that finals berth and continuing a perfect season was Acton-Boxborough. Could the girls punch their ticket, lets find out!

With only girls tennis remaining as we enter the final week of the 2019 spring sports season instead of doing a weekly schedule I will post below the information regarding their state semifinal and possible state final. Also quick programming note, starting tomorrow I will begin posting the spring sports season reviews.

Girls Tennis will take on Acton-Boxborough tomorrow (6-17) at Newton North HS at 3:30 pm. The winner will advance to the state finals against the winner of Algonquin and Longmeadow to take place Wednesday at St John’s HS in Shrewsbury, time tbd. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Raider Recap to see if the girls earned a spot in the ultimate match!

Trophies were on the line today for 3 Raiders in the Individual Tennis State Finals as Harry Collomb and the doubles pair of Haley Genta and Maria Laso looked to capture the crowns. Before we get to that however it’s time to answer yesterday’s trivia question. There are currently 6 Bay State Conference teams left in MIAA play, 2 in boys volleyball (Natick, Newton North), 1 in girls lacrosse (Walpole), 2 in boys tennis (Brookline, Walpole) and 1 in girls tennis (Wellesley).
