Thanksgiving Coverage

It’s that time of year again, Thanksgiving week! As always we have some great coverage lined up leading up to the 132nd Wellesley-Needham game Thursday. Tomorrow I will post an overview heading into this year’s installment of the rivalry, then Tuesday will be our Needham preview, followed by the Wellesley preview, plus the Powder-Puff result on Wednesday and lastly the game result itself Thursday. Keep an eye out for all the excitement!

Football Review

On our final day of fall sports reviews we take a look at the football team who is the only fall sports team still in action. The Raiders currently stand at 8-2 heading into their Thanksgiving tilt with Needham, and advanced to the D2 South semifinals where they fell to Natick. Speaking of Thanksgiving stay tuned next week as we will preview the 132nd Wellesley Needham game leading up to the game itself on Thursday!

Girls Swimming And Boys Golf Reviews

On our second to last day of fall sports reviews we take a look at girls swimming and boys golf. Girls Swimming had the perfect 2019 season, finishing 11-0 overall. The team then went on to take conference, sectional, and state titles, their first state title since 1990. Boys Golf meanwhile finished their 2019 season 14-1, and then captured the Bay State title, going on to finish 3rd and 4th at the sectional and state matches respectively. Tomorrow we will finish out our reviews by taking a look at football!

Cross Country Reviews

As we continue our fall season reviews today we take a look back at the boys and girls cross country seasons. The boys finished a perfect 9-0 on the year, before capturing the Bay State Conference title. The team then went on to finish 2nd at both the Eastern Mass and State meets. The girls finished 6-3 and also took home the Bay State Title. The team then went on to like their male counterparts finish second in both Eastern Mass and the State. Stay tuned tomorrow as we will review girls swimming and boys golf!

Field Hockey And Girls Volleyball Reviews

We continue our week long fall sports reviews today as we take a look back at both field hockey and girls volleyball. Field Hockey finished their season 10-7-1 overall earning the 14th seed in D1 South. The girls then lost a double overtime heart breaker to Bridgewater-Raynham 2-1 in the preliminary round. Girls Volleyball meanwhile finished their season 7-13 and will look to try to get back to the state tournament come 2020. Tomorrow we will review both cross country teams!

6 Raiders Sign Letters Of Intent

For many high school student-athletes the dream/goal is to play at the next level, and yesterday 6 Raiders made that dream a reality by signing their letters of intent to play at Division 1 schools beginning next fall. A big Wellesley Sports Blitz congratulations goes out to Derek Chalmers (Rhode Island, Track and Field), Abby Comella (Virginia, Track and Field), Erin Fleming (Sacred Heart, Hockey), Bridget Noonan (Virginia Tech, Lacrosse), Nellie Thompson (Marist, Swimming) and Michael Thorbjornsen (Stanford, Golf)! Best of luck at the next level!

Soccer Reviews

It is time to kick off (no pun intended) our 2019 fall season reviews and we start with the boys and girls soccer teams. The boys finished 2019 with an 8-7-4 overall record and earned the 12 seed in D1 South. The boys fell in the first round to Weymouth by a 2-0 final. The girls meanwhile finished 9-6-3 overall earning the 13 seed in D1 South. After an upset win over Newton South in the first round the girls fell to Needham 2-1 in overtime in the quarterfinals. Tomorrow we will recap the field hockey and girls volleyball seasons.
