Spring Sports Coverage

So without the ongoing situation in this country spring sports have been pushed back until at least March 30th, that being said I will still be rolling out spring sports coverage this week. This week i will be unveiling the 2020 spring schedules (at least in their current form) and the week after I will be previewing the spring sports teams so stay tuned and stay safe!

Hockey Reviews

Well now that the winter season has unexpectedly come to an end we wrap up our winter sports coverage today by reviewing both boys and girls hockey. The boys finished 11-9-2 overall and advanced through the first round in D1 South by defeating Marshfield before falling to Archbishop Williams in the quarterfinals. Despite some key departures look for the boys to be right back in the mix next season. Now to the girls. They officially finish 22-1 and earn a share of their third straight state title after the cancellation of Sunday’s games. The girls definitely have pieces in place despite graduation to make another run at the Garden next year.

CI’s Marathon Endeavor Marches On

For Wellesley non-profit Community Investors the Boston Marathon is a big source of fundraising, having been allocated a bib each of the last 4 years. This year CI tapped Wellesley High girls basketball coach Glen Magpiong to run for their organization and were fired up for April until today when the Boston Marathon was postponed until September due to the ongoing Coronavirus concern. That being said the organization will still carry on and look to add even more funds as they continue their marathon bid. Girls Hockey Cancelled

Well unfortunately due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic the girls hockey state title game Sunday has been cancelled. As a result both Wellesley and Canton have been declared co-champions, thus earning Wellesley it’s 3rd straight state title. Congratulations to the girls on a tremendous season and best of luck to the seniors moving forward!

Canton Preview

As we get closer and closer to Sunday’s title game, we take a look at Wellesley’s opponent Canton. This is the second time in three years the Raiders and Bulldogs have matched up in the postseason. Let’s see how this year’s Canton team got here!

Canton:

19-1-4

Beat Norwood 3-1 in first round

Beat Ursuline 5-0 in quarterfinals

Beat Norwell 3-1 in semifinals

GF: 77

GA: 17

Wrestling And Gymnastics Reviews

On our second to last day of the winter sports reviews we take a look at wrestling and gymnastics. Wrestling finished their season 2-9, but battled tooth and nail throughout the season. The team will look for even more success in 2020-21. Gymnastics meanwhile finished 6-2 on the year and then went on to finish second at the BSC meet, and 8th in sectionals. They will look to continue their success into next season.

Tomorrow we wrap up the reviews with both hockey teams!

Alpine And Nordic Skiing Reviews

We continue along with our winter sports season reviews today taking a look at the alpine and nordic ski teams. The alpine boys team skied to an 8th place finish at the state meet and will look to carry that over into an even better finish next season. On the nordic side the boys finished in 3rd at states while the girls finished in 4th. Look for both teams to be right back near the top in 2020-21.

Tomorrow we will review wrestling and gymnastics!
