We’ve made it folks, the top spot in the top 5 Wellesley sports memories of the last decade. This top spot was a pretty easy choice, as we flash back to November 2015 and the 128th installment of the Wellesley-Needham football rivalry held at historic Fenway Park. It was only fitting that one of the first high school football games held at Fenway in more than 3 decades feature the longest public school rivalry in the country and the game certainly lived up to the hype. Despite the fact Wellesley came up short falling 12-7 to the Rockets, this was a game and a moment that players, coaches, fans, and broadcasters will never forget.

We have come to moment number 2 on our top Wellesley sports moments of the decade countdown. For moment number 2 we go back to November of 2012 where the then 4-4 Raider football team welcomed 8-0 and top ten ranked Natick to Hunnewell Field. On paper it looked like an easy Natick victory but no one told the Raiders as Wellesley behind quarterback Chris Sarni and some big defensive plays late came away with the 40-34 upset over the Redhawks, who by the way would go on to advance to the Super Bowl. Tomorrow we will wrap up our countdown with our number 1 moment from this decade!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hopefully no matter where or with whom you celebrated you had a great day. What better time than now to unveil the number 3 moment in Wellesley sports over the last decade. Coming in the 3rd spot is girls hockey with not 1 but 2 state titles in 2018 and 2019. The girls defeated Canton 1-0 to win the 2018 title while then last year knocking off Notre Dame Academy 3-2 in an overtime thriller. Stay tuned tomorrow as i’ll unveil the number 2 moment!

On this Christmas Eve Day, we continue our countdown of the top 5 Wellesley Sports moments of the last decade. Moment number 4 comes to us from the youth level, as the Wellesley South Little Leaguers made history capturing the towns first 2 state championships. The first occurred in 2012 as the team captured the state crown in a dramatic walk off win over Acton-Boxborough. They then advanced to the New England Regionals where they made it to the semifinals before falling to New Hampshire. Fast forward 4 years to 2016 and South once again took home the state crown, defeating Southboro this time in the title game. Once at regionals South won their first game of the double elimination before falling in the next 2. Tomorrow I will unveil moment number 3 so stay tuned!

It was a busy start to this holiday week as boys swimming traveled to Wayland to take on Wayland and Ashland while in the main event boys and girls hockey hosted their annual double header with Needham at the Boston Sports Institute. How would it all turn out, lets find out!

This week with the 2010’s coming to a close I will be unveiling my top 5 Wellesley Sports moments of the decade beginning tonight with number 5. There are a lot of moments that could’ve made this list in what certainly has been a great decade of Wellesley Sports. Moment number 5 comes to us just months into the 2010’s, as it is Blake Dietrick and MaryLouise Dixon both reaching 1000 points in the same game. The duo accomplished the feat in a February 2010 tournament victory over Newton South at home. Being there in person you could feel the build up and excitement as the two grew closer before Dixon passed the mark with a free throw and Dietrick a bit later with a 3. Tomorrow I will unveil moment number 4!

Both the Raider boys and girls hockey teams were looking to bounce back from losses tonight as they took on Framingham. Before we get to those results however it’s time to reveal the Raider Friday Trivia answer. There are 90 teams in Wellesley Youth Basketball this winter. Now onto the recap!
