Track Preview

On the second to last day of our spring sports previews we take a look at the boys and girls track teams who are both looking to capitalize on last seasons success as they enter 2019. The boys finished 13th at sectionals and 35th at states last year and this year will be looking to achieve much, much higher and given their recent track record I would not be surprised to see them do just that.

The girls meanwhile had another banner worthy season in 2018 capturing 4th at sectionals and then capturing the state title. Look for the girls to be in prime position to defend their crown this upcoming season. Tomorrow we will finish up the previews with girls golf and boys volleyball.

Tennis Previews

On this middle day of the week and our spring sports previews we take a look at both tennis teams who both are looking to continue their recent history of success in 2019. The boys are coming off a season where they advanced to the D1 South quarterfinals before falling to Newton North. Again with their recent history of success there is no reason to to doubt the boys will once again be in the running on both the individual and team side.

The girls advanced all the way to the sectional final last year before falling to Brookline. The girls will be looking to compete for their 2nd state title in 5 years and certainly have the pieces to do so. Look for another successful year both individually and as a team. Stay tuned tomorrow as we preview both track teams.

Lacrosse Previews

On day 2 of our spring sports previews we take a look at both lacrosse teams who have high expectations entering the new season. Boys Lacrosse is coming off a season where they advanced to the D1 South Semifinals before falling to eventual state champion BC High. The boys are certainly capable of and looking to repeat that success and then some in 2019, so they should quite fun to watch.

The girls team meanwhile certainly enters with high expectations, and a large target coming off their first even state championship in 2018. The girls will have a solid core returning as they look to defend their title and take down the rest of Division 1 yet again. Every game for them will be a must see. Tomorrow we’ll take a look at both tennis teams!

Baseball And Softball Previews

Today we begin a week of 2019 spring sports previews, beginning with the baseball and softball programs. Baseball enjoyed another very successful season in 2018 advancing to the sectional final for the second straight year before falling to eventual state champion Needham. This year’s installment will have a lot of familiar faces back, including Virginia Tech commit Henry Weycker. Look for the boys to be right back in the running for a conference, sectional, and state crown.

Softball was finally able to earn a state tournament berth for the first time in a decade before falling to Plymouth North. Much like their baseball counterparts softball will return a lot of familiar faces as they look to earn another trip to the big dance and advance even further here in 2019. Tomorrow we will take a look at both lacrosse teams.

The teams will be back and ready to once again go for the gold next year.

Boys Swimming and Gymnastics Reviews

It’s the second to last day of our winter sports reviews as we take a look back at boys swimming and gymnastics. Boys Swimming finished up the regular season 5-5 and then finished 9th at sectionals and 17th at states. Like all other Raider winter teams this team is always very competitive and I expect nothing less come next year.

Gymnastics finished their regular season 5-2 and then went on to compete at the Bay State Championships. I would expect the girls to continue that positive momentum into next year. Tomorrow we will wrap up the reviews with both nordic and alpine skiing and wrestling.
