Winter Sports Reviews And Spring Previews

With the winter season almost at an end it’s time to start looking back and also to start looking ahead to the spring season, despite what the weather outside may tell you. Starting next Monday, I will be doing 2 posts daily, one reviewing each of the 2017-18 winter teams, and another previewing each of the 2018 spring teams as practices begin. The following week I will post each spring teams schedule for the new season. Lastly in terms of girls hockey I will post game time information for Sunday as soon as it becomes available and tomorrow and Thursday I will post short previews of both Wellesley and Canton as they get ready for the D2 final.

Raider Recap 3-12-18

The Raider girls hockey team stood one step away tonight from another trip to the TD Garden for the state finals, potentially their 4th in 5 years. How fitting that their state semifinal battle with Algonquin would take place on the practice ice of the Boston Bruins at Warrior Ice Arena. Could the girls earn that trip back to Causeway Street and another chance at a state title, lets find out!

The girls will play Algonquin tomorrow at 6 pm at the Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, with the winner moving on to the state finals on Sunday to take on the winner of Canton/Archbishop Williams. Freiman Announces Retirement

Wellesley native Nate Freiman (05) made the announcement today on Facebook that he is stepping aside from the game of baseball and returning to Duke University to pursuit his MBA beginning in the fall. After graduating from Duke in 2009 Freiman went on to be part of 6 MLB organizations during his career including stints on the major league roster for the Oakland Athletics in both 2013 and 2014. Freiman most recently played in the Mexican Baseball league for both Acereros de Monclova and Pericos de Puebla in 2017 before being release prior to the start of the 2018 season. Wellesley Sports Blitz would like to wish Nate the best of luck as he begins this new chapter.

Raider Recap 3-9-18 (Plus Trivia Answer)

After having their quarterfinal date with Norwell pushed back two days due to snow the girls hockey team finally took to the ice against the Clippers trying to keep their hopes at a 4th trip to the Garden in 5 years alive. Before we get to that result however it’s time to take a look at the answer to yesterday’s trivia question. The current president of the Red Sox is… Wellesley resident Sam Kennedy. Now onto the recap!

It’s another beautiful Friday morning, and all snow aside I hope everyone has a great second Friday of March. It’s also a great time for another edition of Raider Friday Trivia. Today’s question is…what Wellesley resident is currently the president of the Boston Red Sox? Answer tomorrow!

Girls Hockey Update

As of right now girls hockey is scheduled to play their D2 quarterfinal tomorrow night at 8 pm at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton. However with snow predicted later tomorrow, if there is any change to the game status I will post on here and update the weekly schedule accordingly so keep an eye out!

Monday Poll

It’s the first Monday in March, and that means it’s time for the first March edition of Monday Poll. Last week’s poll saw girls hockey take the top spot for team that would make the furthest tournament run taking 50% of the total votes. This week’s poll question is do you prefer the NCAA basketball tournament or the NCAA hockey tournament?
