Lacrosse Reviews

As we continue this week of spring sports reviews, it’s time to take a look back at both the boys and girls lacrosse seasons, which both saw tremendous successes, including a spot in the history books. The boys finished off the season 14-5, and in postseason play upset both Newton North and perennial power Duxbury on the road before falling to eventual state champion BC High in the sectional semifinals. Under first year head coach Jim Connolly the boys were certainly fun to watch, and as always is the case with Wellesley boys lacrosse should be a team to watch out for come next season.

Now to girls lacrosse, yes the talk of the town these days, who achieved a season for the record books (and the banner walls). The girls finished off with a 22-3 overall record, then going on to defeat Barnstable, Needham, Old Rochester and Notre Dame to capture the first south sectional title in program history. They weren’t done yet though as the girls went on to defeat Chelmsford in the state semifinals, and then this past Saturday handed age old rival Walpole their only loss of the season to capture the programs first ever state championship! With coach Michelle Cook leading the way and only a handful of seniors departing, look for the Raiders to be a force to be reckoned with once again next year as they look to defend their title. Stay tuned tomorrow as we’ll take a look back at both the boys and girls tennis teams!

Baseball And Softball Reviews

With the spring season over it’s now time to kick off our spring sports season in reviews. We begin today with a look back at the baseball and softball seasons, both of whom enjoyed tremendous success in 2018. Baseball, coming off it’s first sectional title since 2005, had even better luck this season as they finished with an 18-6 overall record. In postseason play the boys knocked off Natick, Durfee, and Xaverian before falling to eventual state champion Needham in their second straight D1 South finals appearance. The boys look primed though for another run next year as they return a slew of talent including ace Henry Weycker.

Softball meanwhile got their first taste of postseason play in almost a decade as their 9-8 overall record earned them a tournament berth for the first time since 2009. Unfortunately the run was short lived as the girls fell to Plymouth North in the D1 South preliminary round. With that taste of postseason this year, you can bet that the girls will be primed and ready to go even further when they begin play in 2019. Stay tuned tomorrow as we take a look back at both boys and girls lacrosse!
