A big honor was bestowed on Raider football senior Grant Chryssicas this weekend as he was named the Boston Globe’s Division 1A player of the year as part of their All Scholastic section. Chryssicas play at both running back and linebacker was a big part of the Raider’s 10-1 season this season including their 34-14 win over Needham on Thanksgiving. Here’s what the Globe had to say about Chryssicas.

“In a 10-1 season, the 6-foot-1-inch senior was a force. Named Bay State Herget MVP, Chryssicas had 98 tackles and 13 sacks from his outside linebacker position, adding 1,600 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on offense.”

Today was all about the ice as both boys and girls hockey took on Weymouth this evening, one looking for their second straight win to open the year, the other looking for their first win of the season and under a new coach. We’ll find out in a moment if both were successful but first here’s the answer to yesterdays Raider Friday Trivia question. The Raiders first regular season opponent in the new gym was… Longmeadow to open the 2012-13 season and the Raiders didn’t disappoint coming away with a thrilling 53-50 overtime victory over the Lancers. Tonight was all about the hoops as girls basketball opened their season at home vs. Weymouth while the boys looked to bounce back from an opening night loss as they traveled to the Wildcats. Would it be a clean sweep for the Raider hoopsters, let’s find out!

As the old winter tune goes, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and boy is it ever as an arctic freeze is gripping New England on this Friday. But it is Friday and that means time for another hot off the presses installment of Raider Friday Trivia. Today’s question is… Who was girls basketball first regular season opponent in the new high school gym? The answer will be posted in tomorrow’s Raider Recap!

Another day another season opener as today it was boys and girls indoor track kicking off their regular season, as they traveled into the Reggie Lewis Center to take on Natick. Could both teams tame the Redhawks and get their seasons off to a roaring start, let’s find out!

Only one event on the docket today as Boys Swimming opened up their 2016-17 campaign hosting Winchester. The boys were looking to get the season off to a good start coming off of a very successful 2015-16 campaign. Could they get the w, let’s find out!

As I mentioned before both the boys and girls basketball teams will be participating once again in the Good Sports Invitational at TD Garden on Sunday January 8th. The girls will square off with Lincoln Sudbury at 11 am, followed by the boys squaring off with Needham at 12:30. Tickets can be purchased by going to either tdgarden.com or Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are $18 apiece, and not only get you access to both Wellesley games but all of the games being played on that day.
